KEVIN CALLED ABOUT 11PM MONDAY NIGHT TO TELL BO THAT THE FIRE WAS GETTING REALLY CLOSE TO HIS MOM AND DAD'S (VACATION) CABIN. BO OFFERED TO HELP.

THEY TOOK THE BOAT 5 MILES UP RIVER TO THE CABIN TO CLEAN UP AROUND IT AND BE "HOSTS" FOR THE 3 FIREFIGHTERS THAT WERE BEING SENT OUT.

HAD I KNOWN WHAT THEY WOULD REALLY BE DOING, I NEVER WOULD HAVE LET BO GO!!!!!!! HA!

IT WORKED OUT GREAT! THE CABIN WAS SAVED AND NO ONE GOT HURT!

There were 3 firefighters from DNR (Department of Natural Resourses) at the cabin.

Here they are using the hose to pump water out of the river.

"Mop up" crew flying in. The ground is spongey, so the fire is able to get underneath it and spread. So this next crew comes in and finds it and puts it out.

This is the crew from the helicopter. Kevin picked them up from the sandbar that they had to land on.

McGrath Community Church

Our little school. Next years senior class has 1 student!!!!

This is how we spent our Memorial Day weekend. Building a dog pen, because we are using the old one to keep moose out of the garden!

The sun behind the smoke of wildfire. We had a wildfire start on Memorial Day in McGrath. It is across the river from us. So we are not in danger- at least from this one. Wildfires are a big thing here(in Alaska). Dept of Natural Resources has a huge firefighting crew that stays here in the summer.

Kinda creepy. Smoky haze, smell and rains burnt spruce needles! It actually got dark last night.

Sorry I posted the pictures backwards, but keep looking. We got some pretty cool pics. I'm sure we will have more coming.

This is the Department of Natural Resources(DNR). They come out during the summer for fire season. They are stationed here but are firefighters for a big area.
