MOOSE HUNT 2010

We took a 2 hour boat ride up the Kuskokwim River.
Camped out in our boat for 2 nights.
In addition to a successful hunt, we had some incredible wildlife viewing!!
Saw a wolf, 3 bull moose, a cow moose and calf, a lynx, mink and red fox!
Unfortunately no pictures - those critters just don't stay out in the open very long!
Our boat/tent

Nature calls - Alaska style (with 44 mag)! HA!

Cooking lunch in our camp kitchen!
washing dishes

Our hunting set-up

September 16th
Harvested nice, mature bull moose
48 inch wide rack
Approx. 1200 lbs
Bo called him in for a 42 yard shot using bull grunts, cow calls and brush thrashing.

Time to get legal - Bo filling out his moose tag

September 17th - It took Bo and I 8 hours to skin, quarter, and put all of the moose meat into meat sacks. Because we didn't have the daylight or energy to pack out all of the meat, we had to leave it in the woods overnight.
We boated back to McGrath that night (2 hours) to get some rest and to get Ken's help!

Hauling in the antlers!
September 18th - day to pack out moose
Ken went to help us out.
.21 miles to the boat (4 trips)
Took about 4 hours to get the meat to the boat.
Ken and Bo getting my first pack ready

Bo and Ken getting the backpacks ready to take the moose meat to the boat.

Unloading the meat from our packs

Me and Ken - packed and ready to go
Taking a break for lunch - MRE's
Yummy

The last trip to the boat (the antlers have to be the last thing packed out)

And of course the hunter gets that heavy privilege!HA!

After 2 long days of hard work,
the boat is loaded and ready to go home!

This 60+ incher was killed on Innoko NWR.
Two unfortunate things about this moose.
#1 IT'S NOT BO'S!!!
#2 The hunters decided to leave about 200lbs of meat in the woods!
So, the meat and antlers were confiscated!
